Chapter 23
Elio
âBastard, don't push me.â
I barely hear the words before Enlil turns away to attempt, hopefully, to control his powers. I can see that he is off in his head, though, so I am not sure what will happen next.
His eyes are glazed over and unfocused. I actually hate that I know where his mind has gone.
He is reliving that nightmare of the day we were torn apart. That day when our trust in one another was broken. Which is exactly what Father wanted, when he made that announcement in front of the entire kingdom, without making either of us aware of the change in his decision.
It was a day that, no matter how much I tried, I couldn't move beyond or take back. I have done my best to be what Father wants me to be. I bury all the emotions I can down so deep behind barriers I crafted within my mind so no one could ever find them. Behind layers of stone-cold and stoic behaviors learned from Father.
I donât want to rule this kingdom, or anywhere for that matter, without my brother.
I do remember growing up, and being allowed to have the same emotions Enlil still carries with him even now. Even after the threat from Father to disown him. Even after Father named me his only son and the sole heir to the throne. Enlil chooses to remain the same, carrying on with his âweakerâ emotions showing through.
We were conceived as one that was made into two by the grace of the Gods. Why would we ever consider being less? When togetherâ¦together we will always be more.
I try to speak to his mind, because it's the best method when he no doubt has the wind howling inside his subconscious now.
Brother, come back to me, come back to us. Pull yourself from that day and come here again... back to the present. Itâs over. You donât need to relive that nightmare ever again. Move beyond that day. It doesnât define who you are. Not to me. Never to me.
I have no way of telling if he can hear me. Or if he is too far into his own mind to even tell; I am trying to break through to him now.
I know that Father has always considered him to be an abomination. Because he was born a Fae with feelingsâeven being the other half of my soul and identical in every other wayâfather just couldnât cope with the fact that the highborn Light Fae always challenged him in his rule of the kingdom.
Believing him dangerous, because of his heritage, and now mine as well. As Light Fae, he would be more apt to rule the kingdom. The people would adore a ruler that could and would show kindness and love. Much like our mother did before our birth.
Why Father hadnât announced my brother as the sole heir to the kingdom; it would've solved so many things in that one gesture alone.
Since, I am seemingly unable to reach my brother until he has finished reliving that entire horrible scene.
